This was my first ever Star Trek Con. It was actually a cross-over with Xena (Claire Stansfield was the Xena component) so I guess I wasn't yet exposed to Trekkies en masse. The Star Trek guest was Garrett Wang aka "Little" Harry Kim or just "Poor Harry".

Harry_autograph.jpg (76391 bytes) Garrett told some great behind the scenes stories like when he went to grab 7's elbow and got her boob instead (Jeri Ryan came out for the next scene with labels 'Elbow' and 'NOT Elbow') and about how much ribbing he got from all the crew when he (in character) turned down 7's offer to copulate (Jeri apparently stayed in character after the "cut" and made some comment along the lines of 'You really missed out on something' before offering herself to the rest of the crew). He did a mean Janeway (described her voice as between Katharine Hepburn and a smurf) and an EXCELLENT Doctor. Apparently Robert Picardo sings ALL the time on set and just like in the show they applaud and he hasn't finished yet. He also said what a great practical joker Tim Russ is even from the very first ep,  Caretaker. Apparently he stuffed socks down his body stocking and then disrobed after telling people he was self conscious about his body and therefore they shouldn't laugh. Apparently Robert Beltran is the worst line flubber of them all.

Me and Harry.jpg (101128 bytes) As to the part of Harry, his fave episodes are 'Timelines' where he got to play both old and young Harry, and 'Caretaker'. He too is frustrated that he is still an Ensign - joked he will be the oldest one in Star Fleet. Apparently in season 5 he got so frustrated that he went to Kate Mulgrew and asked for a promotion! He said he would like to pitch an episode where Harry sleepwalks and steals everyone else's pips and then sits up in the Captains seat with them all pinned on him. He also said he would like to direct but in true Harry fashion when he was asked he was told "No". He says most of the others who wanted to have done it so he will try again.

He was asked what happened to Kes and replied that he thinks the production crew felt she had run her course and therefore they were having problems knowing where to go with her character. He then referred to 7 of 9 as Double of D...LOL!

He also gave us lots of goss for the upcoming season but of course all is old news now:

Inside Man (no. 2) has a holographic Barclay turning up and giving them some new technique to enable them to return to the alpha quadrant much quicker. The only problem is that it is deemed too risky by Janeway however the hologram tries to convince her otherwise. Meanwhile back on earth the real Barclay knows nothing about it.

Inner Child - Torres discovers she is pregnant and tries to genetically engineer out any Klingon in her offspring!

Unnamed Klingon Ep (!) - Voyager comes across a Klingon generational ship on its way back to the Delta Q. The folks on board have no idea that the Klingons are no longer at war with the Terrans. This is part of the Torres-Paris arc that will resolve their relationship in a satisfactory yet surprising way in keeping with Star Trek (ie not a soap opera).

A Harry ep where he starts to fret about the fact that he hasn't been promoted - a glass ceiling kind of thing - and that it will ruin his chances of every being in command. However he gets the chance to be captain of an alien ship and finds that its not what he expected. (Garrett said that originally he was going to be leaving on the ship and not coming back until the end of the season but wiser heads prevailed. We want our Harry!)

Flesh and Blood - a 2 part story for November. Return of the Hirogen. The story is about a group of rogue holograms who have rebelled against the tyranny of their masters. Crisis for Janeway cos Voyager gave the Hirogen the technology. Crisis for the Doc - who's side should he be on?
